Nodler On State Revenue Drop

Economists keep predicting a recession and so far, Missouri hasn't seen much of a drop.  But a 3.8-percent drop in state revenues---in one week---could forecast a bleaker future for the Show-Me State.

Senator Gary Nodler of Joplin is the Senate Appropriations Chairman. "We've been concerned about revenues going forward into the future for much of this year.  There've been all kinds of indications that the revenue stream in 2010-2011 might be somewhat slower."

But Nodler says he believes this sharp downturn is just a fluke.  "One explanation for that abberation is that we have a 30 day [tax] extension in a number of counties for flooding.  St. Louis County, St. Charles County , and Jasper County have the extensions.  The number of corporate income tax returns is dramatically down."

The tax filing deadline is May 15th.  Nodler says we'll know more about Missouri's financial shape after the deadline.

Would you buy a SmartCar to save money on gas?
You bet! I heard that little car just got top marks in crash tests.
No way! I don't want to drive a car that looks like it's going to get beat up.
I don't know.... where do I put the wife and kids?
