Gov. Still Fighting for FEMA Assistance

Missouri's Governor is still fighting to get public assistance from FEMA for the victims of the May 10 tornadoes in Jasper, Newton and Barry counties. The governor sent a letter today to U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff asking him to reconsider the decision to deny assistance. The governor cites the fact that FEMA's per-capita indicator is the only requirement the area did not meet, but the Stafford Act prohibits the use of a mathematical formula in the federal government's decision to deny assistance.
