Camp Rebuilding Halted

Last weekend's tornado wiped out a church camp in southwest Missouri that had been a retreat for generations, including children with cancer and in foster care.

The tornado damage left little standing at the Ozark Camp and Retreat Center north of Racine. The regional Community of Christ organization has owned the camp since the 1940s.

The tornado destroyed all the cabins and heavily damaged the kitchen, dining hall, bathrooms and dormitories.

But camp officials say the worst damage was losing up to 75 percent of the camp's trees, many of which were 100 years old.

The church organization has halted repairs until the damage is assessed. But camp officials say they will rebuild.

Do you think Republican presidential candidate John McCain will announce his choice of running mate this week?
Yes. He needs to get the media's focus off Obama's overseas adventure.
No. I think he'll wait until closer to the Republican national convention.
  He needs help now!
